The end of June 2018 saw the wrapping up of program activities under NLP1 and we’ve accomplished a lot over these past three years. Some of our NLP1 highlights include engaging with over 30,000 people as part of our program to improve biosecurity practices, supporting actions that have brought benefits to at least 20% of Tasmania’s EPBCA-listed species and 80% of our listed communities, and contributing nearly $400,000 to 84 projects through our grants programs. We’ve dipped our toes into the waters of crowdfunding and raised over $8,000 to save our struggling beach-nesting shorebirds, signed an MoU with the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and joined the D’Entrecasteaux and Huon Collaboration to improve the condition of our waterways. We’ve helped dozens of landholders improve the agricultural practices across over 24,000 hectares and connected with all active Aboriginal organisations in the southern region.
These are just a few highlights that have come about through the efforts of the NRM South team – and most importantly thanks to a great community of people who are passionate about caring for the natural resources that make southern Tasmania such a unique and special place!
