Aboriginal NRM Coordinator

$76000 – $93000 per year Hobart

NRM South is seeking an Aboriginal NRM Coordinator/Project Officer to play a pivotal role in advancing both the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre’s Healthy Country Programs and Plans and NRM South’s 2030 NRM Strategy for Southern Tasmania. Through Healthy Country and cultural principles and values, you’ll support initiatives across NRM South’s Land, Water, and Biodiversity Programs, and the Healthy Country Unit at the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre. Operating within a partnership model between NRM South and the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, you’ll have the opportunity to work across both entities.
This is an identified position. The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under s8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s25 and s26 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1998 (Tas). The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

About us

We work to keep the natural and productive landscapes of south-eastern Tasmania healthy over the long term. We play a key role in building partnerships, securing and directing investment, connecting knowledge and expertise to action and increasing the capacity of others to engage in NRM activities.

What you’ll do

The Aboriginal NRM Coordinator/Project Officer will provide strategic guidance and coordination, develop project plans, facilitate project planning, documentation and whole of organisation initiatives, support project delivery, promote team culture and diversity, support culturally-informed decision-making and build professional connections and partnerships.

What you’ll bring

You’ll have relevant qualifications such as a tertiary degree or experience in natural resource management, community development, Healthy Country planning, conservation, or related fields. For Level 4 positions, a willingness to acquire relevant qualifications or demonstrated interest in these areas would be considered. We welcome applicants with varying levels of experience and qualifications, including those who may be starting their careers or seeking to develop their expertise in natural resource management, Healthy Country planning, and Aboriginal community engagement.

What we offer

You’ll be working in a full time role with a small team of people who share your values to protect Tasmania’s natural environment.  Depending on experience we offer a salary of $76k-$83k per year for a Level 4-5 Project Officer or a salary of $93k per year for a Level 6 Coordinator, excluding superannuation.
