Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator
The Regional Agricultural Landcare Facilitator (RALF) works with farmers, industry and community to understand their unique needs, share information and connect expertise and knowledge on sustainable agricultural practices.
NRM South’s Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF) forms part of a nationwide network of facilitators who engage with their local agricultural sector to help improve sustainability, productivity and profitability for farmers.
Our Approach
The RALF supports regional communities through a range of mechanisms, including;
- Participation and advocacy in relevant agriculture and regional forums;
- Assisting farming communities and agriculture industries/ groups to develop new projects and seek new funding opportunities;
- Participating in the ‘TASAg Innovation Hub’ as a Hub partner and Tasmania’s Forum of Rural Stakeholders to provide advice and activities in crisis response, and;
- Supporting sustainable agricultural initiatives, projects and events.

The role of our Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF) is to work with farmers, industry and community to share information on sustainable agricultural practices, this includes helping farmers and agricultural industries to identify and develop new projects, develop partnerships and seek new funding opportunities.
The RALF is a central contact point for farmers in our region to help increase their knowledge and skills on the path to adopting practices which will help improve the management of our natural resources.
Achievements to Date
Support for the successful delivery of NRM South’s Pasture Information Network, Soil extension and Farming Forecaster projects
Establishment of soil moisture probe network to support the Tasmanian Farming Forecaster pilot project
Development and delivery of the five-year East Coast legume trial in partnership with the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture
Provided advice to inform the strategic direction of the Tasmania Drought Resilience Adoption and Innovation Hub
Development of priorities for NRM Souths 2030 Natural Resource Management Strategy
Development of resources to support the management of grassy weeds including serrated tussock and Chilean needle grass
Supported 21 grant applications developed by land farmers and organisations

What's Next
This project runs until June 2023. NRM South will continue to support the farming community through our other ongoing land projects.
