Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator
The Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF) works with farmers, landholders, community groups, and agriculture industries across southern Tasmania to support the uptake of climate-smart, sustainable agriculture practices. This includes best practice natural resource management, biodiversity and carbon markets, and practices that support emissions reduction and build climate resilience on-farm, to help achieve climate-smart sustainable agriculture outcomes.
NRM South Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (SAF) is a designated central contact point for farmers, landholders, industry, and community groups in the Southern Tasmanian NRM region. The SAF role also performs services that support Regional Capacity Services and other climate-smart, sustainable agriculture related project services.
SOUTHERN TASMANIA’S SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE FACILITATORS
TIM ACKROYD
Tim Ackroyd has been part of NRM South’s Land team for over 10 years and was NRM South’s Regional Agriculture Landcare Facilitator (RALF). Tim has extensive experience assisting landholders across southern Tasmanian to develop and improve their land management practices.
JACINTA LEYS
Jacinta has a background in agricultural science and has works across several projects in our Land Program – particularly focusing on soil monitoring, and supporting landholders to improve soil health on their properties.
Our Approach
The scope of the SAF role will include three key deliverables;
- To engage and inform farmers, landholders, community groups, and agriculture industries within our region about climate-smart, sustainable agriculture practices – including best practice natural resource management, biodiversity and carbon markets, and practices that support emissions reduction and build climate resilience on-farm, to help achieve climate-smart sustainable agriculture outcomes;
- Facilitating partnerships and connections that will assist farmers, landholders, community groups and agriculture industries to work together to achieve sustainable agriculture outcomes, and;
- Supporting the delivery of climate-smart, sustainable agriculture projects in our region.
Project Goals
Supporting the agriculture sector to adopt practices that reduce emissions and build resilience to climate change
Supporting the agriculture sector to harness carbon and biodiversity incentives and implement industry sustainability frameworks
Supporting farmers to drive agricultural growth, while adopting sustainable NRM practices that protect and conserve natural capital and biodiversity
This project is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
